This week is the Boys and Girls Week therefore our chosen classmates are the one who is going to teach us in different subjects. And, in the subject of MediaLit1718, Ethan Roldan was assigned to be the student teacher who is a funny and a great friend.

Today, we discussed about the different media and information sources which includes different factors to consider in gathering pieces of information from various sources that could later on have an impact in our daily lives. The different factors in assessing and evaluating sources and pieces of information that we have discussed are as follows:

Reliability of Information
Verified, evaluated and trustworthiness
Accuracy of Information
Closeness to the exact or actual data
Value of Information
Significance and importance of information
Authority of the Source
Established expertise on the subject matter

Timeliness
Relevance with accordance to time

We also discussed about the different types of libraries such as Academic, Public, School and Special Libraries. I learned about how important and significant libraries are, for gathering more knowledge and information in different subject matters. It also creates more opportunities in learning and discovering new things and ideas. Also, we discussed about the different skills one must have to be able to to assess different information gathered and collected before accepting such data.

After the discussion, our student teacher asked us to make a table about a given article to test what we have learned in the application of different skills in assessing, evaluating and processing the news information. Here is the table that I created.

Questions to ponder

Ø No, since the statistics and details in this article would never change and will still stay the same in time.

After the table that we have made we were given an assignment. Here has been our assignment which is about our school, Manila Science High School.

1. Identify the different information about Manila Science High School
There are truly various information about Manila Science High School, which involves its history, main information, curriculum, faculty and staff and even the students. Besides these pieces of information, announcements that are made within the school are also pieces of information that are passed from the higher officials like the principal and disseminated to the students of the campus.

2. What are the possible sources of this information?
The possible sources of these pieces of information include the official page of Manila Science High School. Other information could also be gathered through other known websites in the internet. There could also be books and other print media that could give information about the school. Also, the members of the school such as the faculty and staff could also give details and information, however most of it are limited since their tenure in the school has not been since its foundation but only in a specific time frame that may cause there knowledge to be limited. It is also better not to rely on different people in gathering information but to the authorized personnel such as the principal, curriculum chairs, and also authorized media such as print media and websites which could give a more accurate and reliable information.
